Mutia Yuantisya, Jakarta – The Civil Coalition Against Evictions (KRMP) is set to stage a demonstration if Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan does not respond to the letter requesting a hearing. They urged Anies to fulfill his promise to revoke Governor Regulation (Pergub) No. 207/2016 on the guideline of land use or control without entitled permits.

"We ask for an audience. We schedule it for next Thursday, if there is no response, we plan a rally demanding the revocation of this Pergub," said KRMP representative Jihan Fauziah Hamdi to reporters on Thursday, August 4, 2022, in front of the Jakarta City Hall.

Victims of evictions will join the street protest. "There are 57 villages that have joined the People's Coalition Against Eviction who will attend [the rally] as representatives of the victims," Jihan added.

According to her, residents of Jakarta lost their homes without procedures due to the regulation. "This regulation is problematic," she remarked.

The victims of this regulation include residents of Pancoran Buntu 2 and Menteng Dalam in 2021, as well as residents of Sunter Agung in 2019. "There are many more victims based on the data we have collected," she said.

KRMP had sent a letter requesting the revocation of Pergub 207/2016 back on February 10. On April 6, KRMP held an audience with the Jakarta government which was attended by Governor Anies Baswedan.

During the meeting, it was concluded and agreed that the provincial government would review and discuss the regulation with the city's legal bureau and KRMP. "And then, carry out a moratorium on the implementation of forced evictions until a decision regarding Pergub 207/2016 is issued," Jihan explained.

However, there has been no response and action taken by Anies Baswedan to revoke Pergub 207/2016.
