Jakarta pollution tops IQ Air's worst air quality index list

Antara, Jakarta – Swiss air quality technology company IQ Air on Monday, July 18, ranked the capital city of Jakarta first in the list of cities in Indonesia with the worst pollution by scoring 180 on its air quality index on Monday, 07:45 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).

This ranks the capital city higher than other Indonesian cities such as Surabaya in East Java which scored 159 which ranks second while Bekasi in West Java scored 129 in terms of air quality earlier this morning, Antaranews reported.

Citing the official website of IQ Air in Jakarta, the capital's air quality is categorized as unhealthy because currently the concentration of Particulate Matter (PM) 2.5 is 111.5 micrograms per cubic meter or 22.3 times above the World Health Organization's annual air quality guideline value. (WHO).

Even the monitoring post in Pesing, West Jakarta showed IQ Air was in the dangerous category (air quality index 348) with PM2.5 concentrations at 298 micrograms per cubic meter.

While air quality monitoring posts in North Jakarta, such as Jalan Puri Jimbaran 2 and Jalan Pasir Putih II in Ancol Pademangan, and Pantai Mutiara in Pluit, Penjaringan, the air quality according to IQ Air is in the unhealthy category with an air quality index between 188 (Pearl Beach) to 196 (Jimbaran 2).
