Fajar Pebrianto, Jakarta – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on June 8 issued presidential instruction No. 4/2022 on the accelerated efforts to eradicate extreme poverty which aims to abolish extreme poverty by 2024. The instruction suggests that inter-governmental efforts will be strengthened to reach this goal.
"Through the integration and synergy of programs, as well as cooperation between ministries or institutions as well as local governments," the Presidential Instruction reads.
This effectively instructs 22 state ministers in the current State Cabinet, six government institution leaders, governors, regents, and mayors to reach this goal through three strategic policies; reducing people's expense burdens, increasing people's income, and reducing the number of poverty pockets.
Specific orders are given uniquely to state ministers such as the target and prioritized areas given to the Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy; data verification for receivers of government programs for the Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini; and the accelerating this goal by incentivizing regions that do well in reducing poverty rates.
The implementation of this Presidential Instruction is coordinated by Vice President Ma'rif Amin as Chairman of the national team for the Acceleration of Extreme Poverty Reduction (TNP2K). This Presidential Instruction is valid until December 31, 2024.
