Jubi TV – National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) chair Ahmad Taufan Damanik said his party was currently overseeing cases of alleged human rights violations that occurred in Paniai and Wamena, Papua Province, and Wasior, West Papua Province.
"Yes, we are escorting the legal process of three cases of alleged human rights violations. Two of them are in Papua, namely the Paniai and Wamena cases, while the other one occurred in Wasior, West Papua," Damanik told Antara News Agency in Jayapura on Monday, March 21, 2022.
He said the Komnas HAM had met a number of officials, including TNI commander Gen. Andika Perkasa and National Police chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and discussed with them to push the cases to court.
He said the two generals had already expressed their support. Komnas HAM also asked for the support of the Papua Police chief and the XVII Cenderawasih Regional Military commander, Damanik added.
Damanik mentioned two options in resolving cases of alleged human rights violations, namely through the court or the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).
