Daniel Ahmad, Jakarta – Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria asked the city residents to remain calm as the hospital bed occupancy rate (BOR) hit 63 percent following the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Riza said the experience of handling patients back in June and July 2021, which reached 11,500 people, could be taken as a lesson. "So there's no need to worry. We will improve the facilities and infrastructure of hospitals, health centers, health workers, oxygen, and vitamins," he said in Ancol, North Jakarta, Sunday, Feb. 6.

The report on the hike in BOR was based on the provincial government's data on the number of beds and ICU patients in 140 Jakarta COVID-19 Hospitals on Feb. 4. A total of 3,572 beds or 63 percent of the 5,678 prepared beds were occupied. While 31 percent or 220 beds of the total 701 ICU beds were occupied.

On February 5, Indonesia logged 33,729 new cases on a single day. Jakarta contributed the largest number of positive cases at 12,774.

To curb the surge, the city administration planned to deploy more officers at several points and the task force officers at the neighborhood or community (RT/RW) levels, while intensifying 3T or tracing, testing, and treatment.

"We ask for the support of all residents to stay at home and implement the 5M health protocols, be obedient, disciplined, and responsible, and immediately report to us when seeing a violation of health protocols. Take photos, videos, etc., and report it to us," Riza asserted.

The Deputy Governor also asked the public to file a report if officers do not comply with the health protocols. Riza Patria called for cooperation from all parties in efforts to contain COVID-19 cases in Jakarta.
