Jamal A. Nashr, Jakarta – Police commissioner Eko Marudin of the Boyolali Police Sector has been stripped of his position as the region's chief of criminal investigation unit after he reportedly made a derogatory comment towards a victim of sexual crimes case as the victim was reporting the case.
This disgraceful act from a figure of law enforcement was addressed by the Central Java Police chief inspector general Ahmad Luthfi, who issued an immediate public apology for what he says is an ethical misconduct.
"I, Central Java police chief offer my apology to the member of the public who reported the alleged sexual crime, and for the ethical violation committed by a police member," the police chief wrote in a statement on January 18.
He also announced that Eko's position is currently replaced by Dona Briyadi, who was the Banjarnegara criminal investigation unit chief.
According to Ahmad Luthfi, the person involved along with one other police member is being investigated by the Central Java internal affairs (Propam). He hopes that this humiliating incident will serve as a lesson to every other police member in his force.
