Indonesia's Banten earthquake damages 3,078 houses

Moh Khory Alfarizi, Jakarta – The 6.6 magnitude earthquake that struck Indonesia's Banten Province on January 14 damaged 3,078 houses. At least 395 of those homes were heavily damaged.

The earthquake also caused damages to 51 school buildings, 17 health facilities, 8 government offices, 3 business venues and 21 houses of worship.

Abdul Muhari, acting chief for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency's (BNPB) Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, said that the Pandeglang Regency suffered the most damages where 379 houses were heavily damaged.

In Pandeglang, at least two people suffered heavy injuries because of the earthquake.

To expedite mitigation efforts in Pandeglang, Abdul said that the regent, Irna Narulita, had set a period of disaster emergency starting January 14 to January 27.
