Antara, Jakarta – State-owned toll road operator Jasa Marga recorded 414,774 vehicles leaving the Greater Jakarta area just one day before the ban on mass exodus or 'mudik ban' was imposed on May 6, 2021.

Jasa Marga spokesperson Dwimawan Heru said on Thursday, May 6, 2021, that the number was an accumulation of vehicle traffic in a number of toll road gates that are headed outside of the Greater Jakarta area.

"The traffic volume leaving the area increased by 8.9 percent compared to normal situations," Heru wrote in a written statement.

Most of the vehicles were headed east of Jakarta with 193,698 while the rest headed to the West and South of the capital city and its satellite cities.

Throughout the Eid celebration mudik ban, Jasa Marga continues to remind people that vehicles exempted from the travel restriction are those transporting or distributing logistics, state visits, visiting relatives who are ill, people visiting deceased relatives, women in labor.

The aforementioned categories are subjected to the exit and entry permit or SIKM pass which is accompanied by a negative test result for Covid-19.
