Police name Munarman terrorist suspect

Andita Rahma, Jakarta – The Indonesian Police have named Munarman, former general secretary of the now-disbanded Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), a terrorist suspect.

"Yes, he has been named a suspect. He is already named a suspect before being arrested," said the police's head of public information Sr. Comr. Ahmad Ramadhan at his office, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 28.

The FPI former general secretary was apprehended by the police's Special Anti-terror Detachment Densus 88 at his home at the Modern Hills Housing Complex in Pamulang, South Tangerang, on Tuesday afternoon, April 27, 2021.

He is suspected of mobilizing people and having malicious consensus to commit crimes of terrorism, as well as withholding information.

The police suspected that Munarman was involved in three events of bai'at (pledge of allegiance) among terrorists. "In UIN Jakarta (Jakarta State Islamic University), in Makassar, and in Medan," Ramadhan explained.

Munarman has been now detained at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters.
