Sheany – An "orgasm retreat" initially scheduled to start this weekend in Ubud has been canceled, after it gained traction online and was castigated by Indonesians, with one local public figure saying that the event tainted Bali's dignity.
The four-day retreat, titled "Tantric Full Body Energy Orgasm Retreat," has now been canceled, one of the hosts of the event confirmed with Coconuts.
The event was initially shared publicly on Facebook, but it appears to have been taken down at the time of publication. The event page had suggested that participants will get to "cultivate and sublimate your sexual energy into a creative life force" and is intended for people who want "to go deeper into their energetic sexual expansion." Among the things one can expect to learn – after paying US$600 – is how to open one's "tantric energy pathways to support heightened states of sexual ecstatic full-bodied orgasmic bliss."
The page also included information about the event facilitator towards the end, a man who was accused of rape and sexual assault in 2018, according to cult reporting blog The Guru Magazine. Coconuts saw that 40 people had responded to the event, including eight who clicked "going" before the page disappeared.
Balinese designer and politician Niluh Djelantik raised the issue via her Instagram account yesterday, describing the event as a "modern-day sex business."
"Where are officials and the people's representatives when Bali's dignity is being rummaged like this?" Niluh wrote on a follow-up Instagram post today. She told Coconuts via WhatsApp that police and immigration are looking into the case.
Our inquiries to related authorities have not been answered at the time of publication, but according to Bali Express, Ubud sub-precinct chief I Gede Sudyatmaja said police are now investigating the cancelled event.
