Antara, Jakarta – The Search and Rescue (SAR) team of the South Kalimantan Police's Mobile Brigade Unit (Brimob) evacuated residents affected by the flood at night.
"The flooding tends to increase at night so officers are sweeping the areas to find people who want to be evacuated," said the Brimob commander, Sr. Comr. Ronny Suseno, on Thursday night, Jan. 14.
Mataraman District in Banjar Regency is one of the worst-hit regions. The police HQ, the resort police offices, subdistrict office, up to the community health centers (Puskesmas) were inundated with the floodwater at a height of one to two meters.
"The floodwater has not yet subsided for the last two days, and the condition is awful. Even Banua Anyar Bridge in the border of Mataraman and Astambul is cut off today," said Ronny.
He also ensured that the SAR team would stay vigilant in the areas and focus on helping the evacuation process of residents to a safer place.
The assistance package in the form of rice and staple food was also distributed at emergency posts and tents or given directly to the houses of residents affected by the flood.
