Andita Rahma, Fajar Pebrianto, Jakarta – The National Police (Polri) on Friday said it would continue to uphold Indonesia's anti-cannabis law despite the World Health Organization (WHO)'s recommendations to remove cannabis and cannabis resin from Schedule IV of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs as they acknowledged the drug's medical tactility.

"As long as the Indonesian government's Narcotics Law forbids the use of cannabis for medical use, then we will continue to uphold it," said the National Police's drug crime director, Brig. Gen. Krisno Halomoa Siregar, on Friday, December 4.

Krisno said many United Nations (UN) member countries were split regarding WHO's recommendations and maintained that Indonesia was one of those against the recommendations.

Earlier this year, the Agriculture Ministry revoked the Minister's Regulation No. 104/2020 overseeing agriculture commodities introduced by Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo on February 3, 2020, which included cannabis among the many medicinal plants under supervision.
