Jakarta – The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Community (MAKI) has reported Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Firli Bahuri to the antigraft body's supervisory board for an alleged ethics violation.
According to MAKI, the police general used a private helicopter on personal trip from South Sumatra's capital of Palembang to the city of Baturaja in the same province last week. They regarded this as indicative of a "hedonistic lifestyle".
"KPK leaders are banned from adopting a luxurious lifestyle," MAKI coordinator Boyamin Saiman said on Wednesday. He said this was required out of "empathy for the public" as stipulated in KPK supervisory board regulation No. 1/2020 on the KPK code of conduct.
Boyamin said the report had been submitted to the supervisory board by e-mail. The report contained photos of Firli riding the helicopter taxi, sometimes called a helimousine, which can cost up to US$1,400 for an hour of use according to a Reuters report.
MAKI also reported Firli's alleged negligence in complying with health protocols during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. He was not wearing a face mask during his visit to Baturaja, Boyamin said, as reported by kompas.com. (vny)
