Jakarta Globe, Jakarta – State-owned airport operators Angkasa Pura I and Angkasa Pura II say the coronavirus pandemic has already reduced their revenues by 20 percent as travel restrictions cause a significant drop in passenger numbers.
"The impact on our revenue has been quite significant, currently it's 20 percent below target. It will get worse when more flights are canceled," Angkasa Pura I's president director, Faik Fahmi, said in a teleconference on Saturday.
He said a total of 18,300 flights at 15 airports managed by Angkasa Pura I, including Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport, Surabaya's Juanda International Airport and Yogyakarta's Adisutjipto International Airport, have been canceled since January to March following the Covid-19 outbreak.
"Most of them are domestic flights, around 14,000 of them. The rest are international flights," Faik said.
Meanwhile, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, managed by Angkasa Pura II, will start restricting operations in its Terminal 1 and 2 on Wednesday.
Angkasa Pura II's executive general manager for the airport, Agus Haryadi, said the restrictions are being carried out to optimize monitoring of everyone at the site.
"We'll minimize the movement of passengers, visitors and workers at the airport to prevent the spread of Covid-19," Agus said in a statement on Sunday.
"The restrictions are temporary but can be extended as the situation unfolds," he said.
