Friski Riana, Jakarta – Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said the government was seeking solutions to a variety of problems occurring in Papua. One of the efforts done was by applying a welfare-based approach.

"The government commits to building territorial integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, especially in Papua. We implement a welfare-based approach," said Ma'ruf at Lombok Raya Hotel, Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Wednesday, March 11.

The government was determined to diminish discrepancy and people's dissatisfaction in Papua by carrying out physical development such as infrastructure, education development, and other facilities.

"Therefore, the government will further take approaches to see the real problems in Papua," Ma'ruf Amin added.

Recently, an armed criminal group reportedly terrorized residents of Tembagapura by intimidating, occupying the village, and even pointing firearms towards the people. The terror caused fears so that residents demanded evacuation.

A total of 1,500 people from Utikini, Longsoran, Kimberly, and Banti villages had been evacuated to Timika City. The evacuation was carried out since last Friday.

The armed criminal group also engaged in a shootout with military officers in Papua. One mobile brigade and military personnel died during the incident.
