Antara, Jakarta – House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I member, Sukamta, officially requests the central government to eradicate armed groups in Papua following a shootout that broke between armed forces (TNI) army with a Papuan armed group on Tuesday, December 17.
Unfortunately, reports suggest two army personnel perished in the shootout that has happened frequently in the region.
"It's truly saddening that the shootout with Papuan armed groups takes lives. I offer my deepest condolences to the families of our national heroes," said Sukamta in written statement on Wednesday.
He strongly urged the government to be serious in eradicating the Papuan armed groups and completely diminish the local terrorist group led by Santoso. The legislator called for the government to be proactive in deradicalizing locals who tend to be pro-Papua liberation.
"The track record of the free-Papua movement has grown wilder as it has not been treated seriously," said the DPR legislator.
