Jakarta (Antara) – MRT Jakarta, the operator of the city's mass rapid transit train network, has collaborated with Gojek Indonesia, one of the largest ride-hailing companies in the country, to provide a feeder transportation service for MRT passengers.

Jakarta's new MRT – it was launched in March this year – already serves more than 90,000 passengers per day, many of whom come to the stations or leave them on a ride-hailing car or motorcycle.

The new collaboration will provide a designated area at South Jakarta's Lebak Bulus MRT Station for Gojek's driver-partners, where they can drop off or pick up passengers.

Syafrin Liputo, Jakarta's transportation department head, said the feeder transportation will improve traffic around the station.

"The collaboration between MRT Jakarta and Gojek should improve comfort, safety and convenience [for MRT passengers]," Syafrin said on Tuesday.

"I hope the designated pick-up and drop-off area can be made available at other stations as well. That way, there will be no more Gojek drivers milling about on the road [and obstructing traffic]," he said.

William Sabandar, MRT Jakarta's president director, said the company hopes the collaboration will persuade more passengers to take the train daily.

"Our target is to increase the number of daily passengers on the MRT network to 100,000 by the end of this year," he said.

MRT Jakarta will also build a skybridge at the Lebak Bulus Station later this year to accommodate street hawkers that have opened up shops around the area and disrupted traffic.
