Fikri Arigi, Jakarta – The House of Representatives (DPR) speaker Bambang Soesatyo said the plenary meeting which is slated to take place Thursday, September 26, might possibly pass the draft bill on the elimination of sexual violence (RUU PKS).

"A plenary meeting will be held tomorrow with several agendas of draft bill ratification," said Bambang in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 25. "RUU PKS might be passed if the discussion is complete."

Bambang said the draft bill could be passed into law if the House and the government have come to an agreement.

As for the Criminal Code draft bill (RKUHP); the primary regulation of RUU PKS, that was pending to be ratified due to problematic articles, Bambang handed the matter over to Commission VIII.

"We will leave it to Commission VIII and the working committee to complete it," the DPR speaker added.

Bambang's remarks contrasted to the House's statement so far, that postponed the discussion of RUU PKS since the RKUHP was incomplete.

Previously, the House's Commission VIII deputy head who is also the RUU PKS working committee head, Marwan Dasopang, said the draft bill could not be ratified before RKUHP is passed into law. Marwan reiterated that several articles related to the definition and prosecution in the draft bill are referred to the Criminal Code, such as rape, molestation, and adultery.

"[RUU PKS] cannot be passed if RKUHP is not completed yet," said Marwan on July 28. At present, Commission VIII is holding a meeting on RUU PKS.
