Francisca Christy Rosana, Jakarta – Gojek announced that it has temporarily halted operations of its app services in the Papua Province following the massive protests that happened in the past week. The company's decision, according to Go-Jek spokesperson Michael Say, is due to security concerns.

"For the time being, we have temporarily halted every Go-Jek operations in Papua," said Michael in a text message to Tempo on Thursday, August 29.

Moreover, Michael said that the ride-hailing giant continues to check on its employees and partners across Papua while also monitoring locations where the protests are taking place in keeping its partners safe.

Go-Jek also officially expressed its grief upon the development in the region and called for residents and partners to stay safe.

"We have announced a cell number to our driver care unit where our Papuan partners can call in terms of operations at 021-50233200," he said.

Go-Jek, that has been running the business in the Papua province in 2018, has operated three of its known services; Go-Ride, Go-Food, and Go-Send, across 221 cities.
