Jakarta (Antara) – General Chairman of the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party Prabowo Subianto on Saturday visited Rachmawati Soekarnoputri to talk about his meeting with her elder sister, Megawati Soekarnoputri, chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), last Wednesday.
Prabowo explained to her that he was invited to Megawati's residence on July 24, 2019. Earlier, on July 13, he was invited to meet President-elect Joko Widodo, said Rachmawati, deputy chairperson of the Advisory Board of Gerindra in charge of ideology.
Prabowo and Jokowi had informal talks and did not touch on the issues of a coalition, she said.
She and Prabowo discussed nationalism and ideology but talked neither about the electoral process nor a political coalition that Gerindra might take, Rachmawati further said.
Prabowo who lost in the 2019 presidential election, said that he and Rachmawati talked about the internal issues concerning Gerindra.
He shared the same commitment as Megawati Soekarnoputri to maintain Indonesia's unity amid diverse political views in the 2019 presidential election, Prabowo said following his meeting with Megawati.
"Sometimes, we each have a different political stance that I think is not fundamental. Nonetheless, the key point is that as patriots, both of us remain committed to defending the Unitary State of Indonesia," Prabowo noted after a two-hour meeting with Megawati at the latter's residence on Teuku Umar Street, Jakarta, last Wednesday.
Prabowo highlighted the fact that it was normal for people to have different political views, but at the end, there is a strong will to continue and strengthen the sound relations to solve various issues that challenge the nation.
The presidential candidate in the 2019 election further acknowledged being an old friend of Megawati and feeling like part of her family.
On July 13, Prabowo and Jokowi met at the Lebak Bulus MRT Station in Jakarta before taking a ride together for lunch at a restaurant at the FX Sudirman shopping center in Senayan.
