Friski Riana, Jakarta – Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati predicts Indonesia will endure the peak drought period in August.
"August will [be the peak] of the drought," said Dwikorita at the Presidential Office on Monday, July 15.
The drought, says the BMKG, initially started since May but is spread unevenly across the country with extreme drought in Indonesia's southern regions.
This region will endure drought until September and consists of areas such as Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and the Southern area of Papua.
Entering October, she said that Indonesia's southern regions will start to experience the rainy season while Indonesia's northern areas will have to endure drought up to December of 2019.
The BMKG also reminded the public on the potential dangers during this dry season such as wildfires.
