Friski Riana, Jakarta – The advocacy team of Baiq Nuril visited Presidential Staff Office Deputy V Jaleswari Pramodhawardani in Bina Graha building, Jakarta, Thursday, July 11 to deliver gratitude as the government issued a recommendation letter for pardon.
"Thank you for giving us good news. We hope the President can consider it in no time," said Erasmus Napitupulu, a member of the legal team.
Erasmus said the recommendation letter was informed by Law and Human Rights Ministry this morning. Nuril, he added, could not join them to the Presidential Staff Office as she had to sign a recommendation letter from Minister Yasonna Laoly.
With the recommendation letter for clemency, Erasmus expressed hope this will be a momentum for victims of sexual assaults in Indonesia to never stop voicing.
Nuril, a staffer of SMAN 7 Mataram High School, is sentenced to six months' imprisonment and Rp500 million fine as she accused of violating Article 27 (1) of ITE Law for spreading "immoral content", revealing the headmaster's verbal sexual harassment against her.
Baiq Nuril's appeal had been rejected by the Supreme Court (MA). President Jokowi then allowed her to propose a pardon.
