Stefanno Reinard Sulaiman, Jakarta – State electricity firm PLN has suspended its president director, Sofyan Basir, after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named him a graft suspect in a case pertaining to the Riau-1 power plant project.

The decision was taken by PLN's board of commissioners and had received approval from State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno, according to a press statement issued on Thursday.

"As an effort to ensure our services to the customers, the commissioners decided to temporarily suspend Sofyan Basir as PLN president director," PLN's senior vice president for corporate legal affairs, Dedeng Hidayat, said.

The board has appointed Muhamad Ali, PLN's human capital management director, as acting president director. "The decision is our way of supporting the legal case that involves our president director," Dedeng added.

The KPK named Sofyan a suspect on Tuesday in the corruption case, which is related to the development of the US$900 million PLTU Riau 1 power plant project. (bbn)
