Jakarta – The Jakarta Transportation Agency is preparing 16,578 free trips using 307 buses for people traveling home on Idul Fitri this year. The Islamic holiday is expected to fall on June 5-6.
"For the return trip to Jakarta we have set a quota of 7,020 people, because our experiences with return trips is that they do not return to Jakarta at the same time, unlike the homeward journey. Some people stay a bit longer in their hometown, so we won't prepare too many buses that would only be half full," Jakarta Transportation Agency land transportation unit head Masdes Arouffy said on Monday, kompas.com reported.
He said the agency would prepare 130 buses for the return trip to Jakarta. The homeward journeys will be on May 30 to 10 cities in West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java.
"For West Java, the buses will head to Ciamis and Kuningan; for Central Java, to Tegal, Pekalongan, Semarang, Solo and Wonogiri; Yogyakarta; while for East Java, only to Jombang, as it is the first time [to organize journeys to the region] this year. Next year we may add more using the 2020 City Budget," Masdes said.
He said the agency would run 15 buses to Ciamis, 14 buses to Kuningan, 31 buses to Tegal, 35 buses to Pekalongan and 30 buses to Semarang. Sixty buses will go to Solo, 20 to Kebumen, 31 to Wonogiri, 51 to Yogyakarta and 20 to Jombang.
The registration for the free homecoming trip will open on Friday online at https://mudikgratis.Jakarta.go.id. (ami)
