Novali Panji Nugroho, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto handed out envelopes containing cash to members of the public after performing Eid al-Adha prayers at the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on Friday, June 6, 2025.
The president was seen passing out small envelopes from the window of the Maung Garuda vehicle in which he was riding.
As the presidential car moved slowly near the mosque's exit, crowds gathered on both sides of the road, hoping to greet the head of state. Personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) were deployed to manage the crowd and secure the presidential motorcade, with security measures immediately heightened.
Prabowo was observed tossing the envelopes toward the sidewalk, where dozens of residents rushed to retrieve them. The distribution sparked a scramble, with people competing to get hold of the envelopes.
According to Tempo's observations at the scene, several residents engaged in a brief scuffle over the envelopes. One of them, 52-year-old Kristanto from Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, said he had to share an envelope with other recipients. A TNI soldier eventually stepped in to defuse the tension.
Kristanto said each envelope appeared to contain multiple Rp100,000 bills. However, after dividing the money with others who had also reached for the same envelope, he ended up with Rp 100,000. "We agreed to split it in half, but I only got Rp100,000. Well, I'm grateful," Kristanto told Tempo outside the mosque.
President Prabowo had arrived at Istiqlal Mosque around 06:45 AM to take part in the Eid al-Adha prayer. He wore a white shirt, black trousers, and a black peci, and took a front-row position for the prayer. He was accompanied by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Several members of the Red and White Cabinet were also in attendance, including Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Rosan Roeslani, and Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.
