Jakarta – The Jakarta administration has disbursed Rp 324 billion (US$22.7 million) for a child nutrition program to be implemented at state elementary schools across the province.
"The funds will cover [the program's implementation] in the five municipalities and one regency of Jakarta. Hopefully, [Jakartans] will immediately enjoy the benefits," Jakarta Education Agency head Ratiyono said at the launch of the Children Supplementary Food Provision (PMTAS) program at a state elementary school in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.
Ratiyono said every child would receive supplementary food worth Rp 10,800 every day including fruit, bread and milk.
"The school committee will manage this program. The committee members who live around the school will serve them cakes, bread or lemper [meat-filled glutinous rice wrapped in banana leaves]," he said.
Ratiyono added that the program would be carried out on every of the next 154 week days.
North Jakarta Education Department head Budi Sulistiono said the program would be carried out at 26 schools in North Jakarta alone.
"[The program will cover] 10 state elementary schools in Pademangan district, 12 in Penjaringan, and 4 in Tanjung Priok," Budi explained. (ggq/swd)
