Lani Diana Wijaya, Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the lack of access to clean water supply is still a basic problem for North Jakarta residents.

He argues that regional administrations should focus on building access to clean water supply rather than putting efforts in producing alcoholic beverages, which refers to his plans on letting go of Jakarta's share in beer producer PT Delta Djakarta.

"Which is why I have said it numerous times, the government should be thinking more about producing clean water, not alcoholic beverages," said Anies Baswedan in his acceptance speech at the North Jakarta Mayor's Office yesterday.

Difficulties to reach clean water supply is not only felt in North Jakarta, he says that the same issue is also looming over residents of West Jakarta. He voiced his plans to install new clean water supply pipes which will be funded from the profit of selling the city's shares in PT Delta Djakarta.

"Never have I heard or seen anyone argue that producing alcoholic beverages is part of development," said Anies Baswedan who initially promised to completely let go of Jakarta's PT Delta shares in his campaign for the 2017 Gubernatorial Election.
