Jakarta – The campaign team of presidential candidate pair Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin has asserted that the pre-employment card, which is one of the incumbent's campaign promises, will not be valid forever.

During a speech on Feb. 24, Jokowi promised to issue the pre-employment card, which can be used by unemployed people or workers who want to undergo vocational training.

"As explained by Pak Jokowi, [the pre-employment card will be given] to people only when they're looking for jobs," the deputy chairman of the campaign team, Moeldoko, said on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.

He added that the government would declare the card invalid after the holders find a job.

Moeldoko, who is currently serving as the Presidential Chief of Staff, said the administration would select cardholders based on specific criteria.

The retired general, however, refused to answer when asked how long the government would provide assistance to the cardholders. He also did not provide specific answers on the amount budgeted for the program.

"I believe the budget will be huge because we're focusing on developing our human resources. We will look into the details later," Moeldoko said.

The pre-employment card was not the only one promised by Jokowi during his speech in February. He also plans to implement the Affordable Staple Foods Card program and improve existing food aid initiatives, such as rice social assistance programs in addition to the Family Hope Program.

He pledged to expand the Indonesia Smart Card (KIP) program to include university students. It currently applies only to students up to high school level, 18.7 million of whom have received the card. (kuk)
