Budiarti Utami Putri, Jakarta – The Agrarian Reform Consortium (KPA) reported its analysis and evaluation results on the agrarian reform program during four years of the Joko Widodo or Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla administration to the Indonesian Ombudsman.

The non-governmental organization (NGO) mainly highlighted the process of land redistribution target from expired concessions of land-cultivation permits (HGU) left by entrepreneurs and from the release of forest area claims.

"President Jokowi lacked or even did not provide any explanation on land distribution," said KPA secretary-general Dewi Kartika today, March 4, at the Indonesian Ombudsman office, South Jakarta.

According to Dewi, the government was too occupied with land certification. She explained land certification was indeed necessary to provide legal certainty to landowners, but certification was only part of the whole agrarian reform program.

Dewi opined the government should carry out the reform program more concretely and seriously, and that land certification alone was not enough for it.

She further stressed that this agenda should not be used by both presidential camps as a means to attack each other ahead of the 2019 presidential race. "This must be taken seriously with concrete strategies. We fear this issue will only become silly political debates," she said.
