Grace Gandhi, Jakarta – Indonesia is slowing down on its gas exports to Singapore starting Saturday, October 24, 2026, according to the head of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), Djoko Siswanto.
"Starting tomorrow (Saturday), we will slash gas exports to Singapore. From Natuna 15 Billion British Thermal Units per Day (BBTUD) and from Sumatra 16 BBTUD," said Djoko when met at the Energy Subroto Awards Night 2026 held in Jakarta late Friday, October 23, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Djoko said no other country besides Singapore is affected by the export slowdown. "The pipeline goes to Singapore only," Djoko added.
This statement aligns with earlier remarks by the Coordinating Minister for Downstream and Energy Transition, Bahlil Lahadalia.
On Wednesday, October 21, after attending a cabinet meeting, Bahlil announced that he would not extend gas exports to neighboring countries while warning "unfriendly" countries that express negative views against Indonesia to be cautious.
"Be careful, I'm considering not to extend gas exports to neighboring countries," Bahlil said.
Bahlil also said he would review gas exports to optimize domestic consumption, as Indonesia is planning to develop a petrochemical downstream industry, with gas as the main raw material.
Bahlil, who serves as the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources as well, explained that out of the total gas production in Indonesia, 30 percent is exported abroad, while 70 percent is for domestic consumption. Bahlil said he would review these numbers.
