Novali Panji Nugroho, Jakarta – The 2024 presidential election dispute regarding the validity of Gibran Rakabuming Raka's vice-presidential candidacy has moved to the evidentiary stage at the Constitutional Court. The evidentiary hearing for case number 01/PHPU.PRES-XXIV/2026, filed by Denny Indrayana and co-petitioners, took place at the Constitutional Court building in Central Jakarta on Wednesday evening, September 30, 2026.

In their lawsuit, the petitioners challenge the educational credentials Gibran submitted to fulfill eligibility requirements for the 2024 race. Records from the General Elections Commission (KPU) show Gibran attended Orchid Park Secondary School in Singapore from 2002 to 2004 and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Insearch, now UTS College, from 2004 to 2007.

Former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Denny Indrayana, one of the petitioners, stated that his team is continuously compiling additional evidence to substantiate claims of fraud surrounding Gibran's 2024 candidacy. "We are finding new evidence every day," Denny said on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

According to Denny, petitioners have submitted approximately 160 pieces of evidence to the bench. During the opening session on September 21, 2026, petitioners presented 120 items of evidence to the Court. The body of evidence expanded further during the second hearing. He confirmed that additional evidence will be introduced as the evidentiary phase unfolds.

"We shall see as the proceedings unfold," said the founder of Integrity Law Firm. Denny added that the petitioners plan to call several witnesses and expert testimonies during the evidentiary sessions.

Co-petitioner Bonatua Silalahi noted that the high school equivalency certificate issued to Gibran by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education serves as a cornerstone of their submission. He argued that the document contains severe administrative defects.

During the September 21, 2026 hearing, Denny Indrayana pointed out that Gibran's certificate lacked proof of senior high school graduation, indicating a procedural defect. He further highlighted that the equivalency certificate was processed in under 24 hours. "The application was filed on August 6 and completed on August 6; standard processing takes at least five working days," Denny said.

The petitioners' submission extends beyond the equivalency certificate. Bonatua stated that petitioners have secured a written response from the KPU addressed to him regarding KPU Decree No. 731/2025. That decree categorized 16 candidate qualification documents as confidential public information. "That regulation took effect after I requested a copy of Jokowi's diploma on August 3, 2025," Bonatua said.

Bonatua also introduced KPU Regulation No. 19/2023 as evidence. He contended that revisions to the KPU rule indicate deliberate manipulation of candidate eligibility requirements. The updated rule, he explained, was designed so that overseas graduates running for office are exempt from providing a high school diploma if they present a university degree.

Attempts to seek confirmation from Gibran through his special staff member, Suwardi, were made several days ago, but no response has been received as of publication.
