Dede Leni Mardianti, Jakarta – Indonesia's Defense Ministry has allocated Rp1.064 trillion for national defense education programs targeting future managers of the Red and White Village Cooperatives and Red and White Fisher Villages.
The budget will cover training expenses for 35,476 participants enrolled in the 45-day program, according to the ministry.
Defense Ministry Director General of Defense Planning Major General I Gusti Ngurah Wisnu Wardana said the program costs around Rp30 million per participant on average.
"The funds are used for various needs," Wisnu said at the Defense Ministry office in Jakarta on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
He explained that the allocation covers the selection process, individual field equipment including uniforms, education costs, official travel expenses, and participants' allowances of Rp1.5 million each.
Wisnu emphasized that the funding for the program was submitted separately to the Finance Ministry and would not affect the Defense Ministry's regular budget allocation.
"It will not disrupt or burden the budget of the Defense Ministry or the Indonesian Military (TNI)," he said.
The 45-day training program ran from June 17 to July 31, 2026, combining basic military training, national defense education, and managerial preparation.
Participants underwent 30 days of basic military training, followed by national defense education. The remaining 15 days focused on managerial skills needed to manage village cooperatives and fisherman village programs.
The initiative was designed to prepare future managers as part of the government's effort to strengthen the capacity of village-level economic institutions.
Although the program initially targeted 35,476 participants, only 33,846 people joined the training after it began last month.
The remaining 1,369 participants did not attend due to various reasons.
Of those who participated, 33,785 individuals successfully completed the program, while 61 participants dropped out because of health issues or personal circumstances.
Major General Ketut Gede Wetan Pastia, Head of Human Resource Development at the Defense Ministry, confirmed that the 61 participants could not continue the training.
"These 61 colleagues were unable to continue for various reasons," he said.
