M. Faiz Zaki, Jakarta – Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya has defended President Prabowo Subianto's frequent overseas trips, arguing that the visits have helped attract trillions of rupiah in investment to Indonesia.

However, a review of official investment data shows that the figure cited by Teddy includes both foreign and domestic investment.

Responding to public criticism of Prabowo's international travel during his first 1.5 years in office, Teddy said the visits had generated significant economic benefits.

"The total investment realized during this 1.5-year period is around Rp2,430 trillion, based on data from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM)," Teddy said in a video statement on Monday, June 1, 2026.

As an example, he pointed to Prabowo's visits to Japan and South Korea in late March 2026, which he said resulted in investment commitments worth approximately Rp575 trillion.

Does the data back Teddy's Rp2,430 trillion investment claim?

A review of data released by the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry/BKPM, however, shows that the Rp2,430 trillion figure refers to the combined value of foreign direct investment (FDI) and domestic investment realized between the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.

During that period, domestic investment (PMDN) reached Rp1,279.1 trillion, while foreign direct investment (PMA) totaled Rp1,150.9 trillion. Together, they amounted to Rp2,430 trillion, with domestic investment accounting for 52.64 percent of the total and foreign investment 47.36 percent.

The investment realization data are as follows:

First Quarter 2025

Domestic investment: Rp234.8 trillion
Foreign investment: Rp230.4 trillion
Total: Rp465.2 trillion

Second Quarter 2025

Domestic investment: Rp275.5 trillion
Foreign investment: Rp202.2 trillion
Total: Rp477.7 trillion

Third Quarter 2025

Domestic investment: Rp279.4 trillion
Foreign investment: Rp212 trillion
Total: Rp491.4 trillion

Fourth Quarter 2025

Domestic investment: Rp240.6 trillion
Foreign investment: Rp256.3 trillion
Total: Rp496.9 trillion

First Quarter 2026

Domestic investment: Rp248.8 trillion
Foreign investment: Rp250 trillion
Total: Rp498.8 trillion

The BKPM data cited by Teddy therefore do not indicate that Rp2,430 trillion came solely from foreign investors. Rather, the figure represents the combined realization of both domestic and foreign investment over the five-quarter period.

Prabowo was inaugurated as Indonesia's president on October 20, 2024. Based on BKPM data, total investment realization from the fourth quarter of 2024 through the first quarter of 2026 reached Rp2,882.8 trillion.

Of that amount, foreign direct investment accounted for Rp1,396.7 trillion, while domestic investment totaled Rp1,486.1 trillion. Foreign investment represented 48.45 percent of the total, compared with 51.55 percent for domestic investment.

This means the total value of foreign investment realized since Prabowo took office was Rp1,396.7 trillion, significantly lower than the Rp2,430 trillion figure cited by Teddy, which includes both foreign and domestic investment.
