Andi Adam Faturahman, Jakarta – The University of Indonesia (UI) Student Alliance urged President Prabowo Subianto to resign from the Board of Peace (BoP). This demand was expressed in a letter sent to the Office of the Ministry of State Secretariat on March 4, 2026.

"Indonesia's membership in the BoP places this country on the side of the colonizers and is contrary to the constitution," said Fathimah Azzahra, a representative of the UI Student Alliance, in a written statement on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

They believe the BoP contradicts the mandate of the preamble to the 1945 Constitution, which rejects all forms of colonialism. The problem is that the United States and its ally, Israel, play a dominant role in the forum.

Israel has colonized Palestinian land through military aggression. Meanwhile, the US has repeatedly vetoed attempts by the United Nations Security Council to recognize the Palestinian state.

Razan Diandra Fatahillah, a representative of UI Students for Justice in Palestine, added that the UI Student Alliance also urged Indonesia to cancel plans to send Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) troops to Gaza.

The deployment of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) troops to Gaza is part of Indonesia's decision to join the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in November of last year.

At the BoP Summit in Washington, D.C., US, last February, US President Donald Trump announced that Indonesia had accepted an offer to become Deputy Commander of the ISF. Approximately 8,000 TNI troops will be deployed to Gaza, Palestine, for ISF duties.

Razan believes that the deployment of TNI troops to the ISF has the potential to cause harm by confronting and demilitarizing Palestinian fighters, as well as acting as a performative mediator in the US-Israel war with Iran.

"We urge the President to stop his involvement in the deployment of ISF troops," he said.

In this letter, the UI Student Alliance also conveyed several demands to Prabowo to fulfill his promise to withdraw from the BoP if the forum's goals are not in line with Palestinian independence.

They also urged Prabowo and his Red and White Cabinet to condemn and condemn the US-Israeli attack on Iran.

"We are also issuing an ultimatum to the President and his staff to meet all demands within 3x24 hours before the wrath of the Indonesian people descends," said Fathimah Azzahra, a representative of the UI Student Alliance.

Prabowo made the decision to join the BoP while attending the World Economic Forum in Switzerland on Thursday, January 22.

In the presence of US President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Prabowo signed the BoP charter as a sign of his agreement to join the American-founded forum.

The Board of Peace is claimed to address conflicts in various parts of the world, including Gaza, Palestine.
