Ervana Trikarinaputri – Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Chairperson Megawati Sukarnoputri has condemned the sudden military attack launched by Israel and the United States against Iranian territory.

Megawati stated that the principle held by the Indonesian people since the era of the country's founding President Sukarno until now is that conflict resolution must be achieved through dialogue.

In addition to this, conflict resolution should also be through fair negotiations and respect for international law, not through violence or the use of armed force.

"I need to reiterate that the Indonesian people stand with the Iranian people in rejecting and strongly condemning all forms of unilateral military aggression that violate state sovereignty and endanger regional and world peace", wrote Megawati in a statement on Tuesday March 3.

Megawati's statement was conveyed through an external letter numbered 014/EX/KU/III/2026. The letter dated March 2, 2026, was addressed to the Interim Supreme Leader, the President and all people of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In the letter, Megawati – on behalf of her father Sukarno's personal and extended family, as well as representing the Indonesian nation and people – expressed sympathy and solidarity for Iran.

She also expressed his condolences over the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei, in an attack launched by the US-Israel on February 28.

Megawati claimed that for more than three decades, Ali Khamenei led the Iranian nation under difficult circumstances, namely amidst geopolitical pressure, economic sanctions and military threats. However, she considers Khamenei to have consistently defended the sovereignty of his country and the dignity of the Islamic world.

"In him, we see a cleric and statesman who tried to combine religious faith, social justice, and an anti-imperialist stand in one consistent line of struggle", said Megawati.

Megawati also prayed that the Iranian people would be blessed with strength, unity and wisdom to get through these difficult times. Aside from this, Megawati prayed that the Iranian people would be able to maintain the independence, honour, dignity and sovereignty of their country.

"To the extended family of the late Ayatullah Ali Khamenei, the leaders and clerics of Iran, as well as all the people of Iran, allow me to convey a prayer that Allah, the Most Gracious and Merciful, will take his place by his side, accept all his deeds of struggle, as well as forgive all his mistakes", said Megawati.
