Ervana Trikarinaputri, Jakarta – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) condemned the attack launched by the United States (US) and Israel on Iran on Saturday, February 28, 2026, local time. Reflecting on the attack on Iran, the Council considered the existence of the Board of Peace (BoP) useless because it was unable to create peace.
Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, Head of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Foreign Relations, stated that this attack was concrete evidence that United States President Donald Trump is truly a destroyer of peace.
"Therefore, the BoP is increasingly losing its moral, political, and even legal legitimacy because it is clearly useless in creating true peace, let alone justice," Sudarnoto said in a written statement on the MUI Digital website on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
He considered President Trump an actor who has hijacked the word "peace" for his hegemonic and imperialistic ambitions. Sudarnoto said the attack on Iran demonstrates that the US-created Board of Peace cannot be trusted as an international body fighting for peace and Palestinian independence.
Furthermore, according to Sudarnoto, the United States and Israel's aggression against Iran will trigger a regional war in the Middle East. He suspects this is indeed the intention of the United States and Israel to completely paralyze the Middle East.
"And ultimately, Palestine and the Middle East will be under the control of the United States and Israel. Indonesia should not get involved and firmly reject all military aggression," said Sudarnoto.
The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) also urged the Indonesian government to uphold international law and fight for a peaceful resolution based on justice. Sudarnoto said the US-Israeli military attack on Iran is a real threat to efforts to strengthen true peace and world order.
Sudarnoto emphasized that this attack is part of a larger geopolitical configuration. For him, Israel and the United States are the parties responsible. "It's not just Iran that has been sacrificed by the hegemonic-imperialistic ambitions of Israel and America," he said.
This attack, Sudarnoto said, is a systematic effort to weaken Iran's strategic position in the region and even hinder Iran's support for the Palestinian cause. "So this is a way to exert political pressure so that Israel's regional dominance over Palestine can truly be guaranteed," he said.
Israel, according to Defense Minister Israel Katz, launched an unprovoked attack on Iran on Saturday morning, February 28, 2026, coinciding with the declaration of a nationwide state of emergency. A US official told Al Jazeera that the attack on Iran was carried out as a joint military operation between the US and Israel.
Several explosions were heard in the Iranian capital, Tehran, with thick smoke billowing over parts of the city. In addition to Tehran, according to local media, as reported by Al Jazeera, explosions were reported in several cities, including Kermanshah, Lorestan, Tabriz, Isfahan, and Karaj.
