Ahmad Fikri (Kontributor), Jakarta – The West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has reported a fatal landslide in Kampung Mekarsari, Tribakti Mulya Village, located within the Pangalengan District of Bandung Regency.

"The landslide occurred on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 14:30 WIB," the BPBD West Java confirmed in a statement released Monday, February 2, 2026.

According to BPBD West Java, the disaster left two houses moderately damaged and affected two families, totaling approximately five individuals. Tragically, the Pangalengan landslide claimed the lives of two toddlers, aged 3 months and 5 years.

BPBD West Java attributed the slope failure to a combination of light rainfall and unstable soil conditions.

Search for landslide victims in Cisarua

Ade Dian, Head of the Bandung Search and Rescue (SAR) Office, announced that the joint SAR team expanded its operations for landslide victims in Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency, by activating worksite A3 on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

"All elements, including Basarnas, the TNI, Polri, various ministries, institutions, and volunteers, continue to work professionally and with unwavering dedication to this humanitarian mission," Ade stated, as quoted in a West Java Public Relations press release on Monday, February 2, 2026.

Two victims' bodies were recovered at the new A3 worksite, while two others were found at the previous A2 location; all were immediately transferred to the West Java Regional Police Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team.

Marking the ninth day of operations on Sunday, February 1, 2026, the joint SAR team had evacuated a total of 74 body bags, though six victims remain missing. Of the recovered victims, the West Java Police DVI team has successfully identified 57 individuals.

Despite persistent rain, Ade maintained that the weather had not hindered the ongoing search efforts. The joint SAR team is currently relying on heavy machinery to locate the remaining victims, a necessary measure given that many of the recovered bodies are no longer intact.
