Prabowo swears in National Energy Council, denies reshuffle

Theressia Sunday Silalahi, Celvin Moniaga Sipahutar, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated the members of Indonesia's National Energy Council (DEN) at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, amid speculation of a possible cabinet reshuffle.

The council, led directly by the president, is tasked with guiding strategic energy policies, including efforts to achieve energy self-sufficiency. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia was appointed as the council's daily chairman.

A total of 15 members were sworn in, including seven ministers from the Merah Putih Cabinet and eight stakeholder representatives. The eight stakeholder members underwent fit-and-proper tests at the House of Representatives' Commission XII in November 2025.

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi addressed the ongoing rumors of a cabinet reshuffle, clarifying that the only recent change involved Thomas Djiwandono, who was appointed Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia after passing the parliamentary fit-and-proper test. Prasetyo confirmed that no replacement for the vacant Deputy Finance Minister position has yet been determined.

"The position he [Thomas Djiwandono] left at the Finance Ministry has not been filled, and the process is ongoing."
