Hammam Izzuddin, Jakarta – Indonesian Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo deemed the series of protests and unrest across the country in late August 2025 a major event for Indonesia, calling it "August Gray" that the nation successfully overcame.

"We were all able to overcome all these challenges so we could immediately address the series of events," Sigit said while reporting the police's yearly performance on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

According to Sigit, the unrest was swiftly mitigated, avoiding major impacts that could have otherwise occurred, citing the Nepal riots. The police chief said the unrest in Nepal hit the country's economy and led to distrust in governmental institutions.

"The impacts on security manifested in various acts of vandalism, arson, looting, and public distrust towards government institutions and the media," said Sigit.

Sigit said the police would strive to make improvements in carrying out their duty to protect, foster, and serve the Indonesian people. Moving forward, he went on, the police would strive to reduce crime, create a sense of security, and maintain social order and stability in the country.

"The majority of citizens feel no fear in the presence of police, they instead feel more protected," said Sigit.
