Three Petro Energy executives sentenced in LPEI corruption case

Mutia Yuantisya, Jakarta – The Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court sentenced three high-ranking officials of PT Petro Energy in the alleged corruption case involving fictitious loans from the Indonesian Export Financing Agency (LPEI).

They are PT Petro Energy President Commissioner and beneficial owner Jimmy Masrin, President Director Newin Nugroho, and Finance Director Susy Mira Dewi Sugiarta.

"We declare that Defendant I Newin Nugroho, Defendant II Susy Mira Dewi Sugiarta, and Defendant III Jimmy Masrin have been proven legally and convincingly guilty of jointly committing the crime of corruption," said presiding judge Brelly Yuniar Dien Wardi Haskori while reading the verdict on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

Jimmy was sentenced to eight years in prison and a fine of Rp250 million, with the condition that if the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with four months' imprisonment. He was also sentenced to an additional penalty of US$32,691,551 in restitution.

Newin was sentenced to four years in prison and a fine of Rp250 million, or four months in prison.

Susy Mira Dewi Sugiarta was sentenced to six years in prison and a fine of Rp250 million, or four months in prison.

Previously, the public prosecutor charged three high-ranking officials of PT Petro Energy in the alleged corruption case involving fictitious loans from the LPEI. The prosecutor stated that the three individuals caused state losses of nearly Rp1 trillion.

"Declaring Defendant I Newin Nugroho, Defendant II Susy Mira Dewi Sugiarta, and Defendant III Jimmy Masrin legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the crime of corruption jointly and continuously as stated in the primary charge," said the prosecutor while reading the indictment at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday, November 17, 2025.

The prosecutor stated that Jimmy Masrin, Newin, and Susy violated Article 2 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 point 1 in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

The prosecutor demanded that Newin Nugroho be sentenced to six years in prison and a fine of Rp250 million, or four months in subsidiary imprisonment.

The prosecutor demanded that Susy be sentenced to eight years and four months in prison and a fine of Rp250 million, or four months in subsidiary imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Masrin was sentenced to 11 years in prison and a fine of Rp400 million, or an additional six months' imprisonment, as well as an additional penalty of US$32,691,551 in restitution.

If Jimmy fails to pay the restitution within one month of the final and binding verdict, prosecutors will seize his assets and auction them off to cover his debt.
