Jihan Ristiyanti, Jakarta – The corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook laptops at the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology is now being heard in court. Three defendants appeared in a trial at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
They are the former consultant of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Ibrahim Arief, the Director of Primary Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the 2020-2021 period, Sri Wahyuningsih, and the Director of Junior High School at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the 2020-2021 period, Mulyatsyah.
The former Minister of Education, Nadiem Makarim, who is at the center of this case, could not attend the trial as he is still recovering from surgery. Earlier, Nadiem was also reported to have undergone surgery for hemorrhoids.
Nadiem's name came up in Sri Wahyuningsih's indictment. The Public Prosecutor, Roy Riady, said that Nadiem was mentioned to have replaced two officials at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology at the level of Deputy Director, namely Khamim, the Primary School Director in the Directorate General of Early Childhood and Basic Education, and Poppy Dewi Puspitawati, the Junior High School Director in the Directorate General of Early Childhood and Basic Education.
"One of the reasons the defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim replaced the Deputy Director official includes Poppy Dewi Puspitawati due to differences in opinion regarding the technical study results that did not align with Nadiem Anwar Makarim's instructions," said Prosecutor Roy Riady on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
Khamim was then replaced by the defendant Sri Wahyuningsih while Poppy was replaced by Mulyatsyah. The prosecutor stated that both were replaced because they disagreed with the procurement referring to a specific product.
Sri Wahyuningsih herself is accused by the Prosecutor's Office of having benefited several parties. This includes Nadiem Makarim, to the amount of IDR 809 billion, her colleague, Director of Junior High School at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Mulyatsyah, to the amounts of SGD 120,000 and USD 150, and several corporations. Meanwhile, in the list of beneficiaries, Sri Wahyuningsih's name is not included.
Following this, through the Decree Number: 5190/C.C1/KP/2020 regarding the establishment of a technical team to review the analysis study of the need for ICT learning tools in primary and junior high schools, Mulyatsyah was appointed as the chairperson, replacing Khamim, and the defendant Sri Wahyuningsih as the deputy chairperson, replacing Poppy Dewi Puspitawati. The technical team is tasked with reviewing the technical study previously issued by Khamim and Poppy Dewi Puspitawati.
After the change, Nadiem instructed Sri Wahyuningsih and Mulyatsyah to have the technical team provide a review that recommended the procurement of ICT in 2020 using Chromebook.
"In accordance with Nadiem Anwar Makarim's instructions to use Chromebook with the Chrome operating system, which is superior, while the defendant Sri Wahyuningsih knew that Chromebook with the Chrome operating system failed in schools, especially in the 3T regions," said the prosecutor.
