Sultan Abdurrahman, Jakarta – At least ten trees fell after a torrential downpour and strong winds lashed in Jakarta yesterday afternoon, Thursday, October 30, 2025. Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo mentioned that the extreme weather caused damage at various points in the capital.

"Heavy rain and strong winds in Jakarta caused several trees to fall," said Pramono at the Jakarta City Hall on Friday, October 31, 2025.

According to Pramono, incidents of fallen trees occurred in 10 locations: 1 in Central Jakarta, 2 in South Jakarta, and 7 in East Jakarta.

This caused damage to 7 four-wheeled vehicles, 2 kiosks, 1 security post, 2 electrical cables, 1 road signpost pole, 1 school roof at Public Elementary School (SDN) 04 Dukuh, 1 internet cable, and 1 goat pen. Additionally, one resident was killed in a tree-falling incident in Dharmawangsa, South Jakarta.

Pramono said the Jakarta government will take responsibility for the tree-falling incident yesterday. "Especially for the resident who was killed and those who were injured, we will handle all the costs," he said.

According to Pramono, the Jakarta City Parks and Forest Service has regularly taken care of the trees in the capital. Some of them are supported with beams and cut if they get too old. By the end of October, 5,722 trees have been inspected, while 62,161 trees are supported to prevent falling.

Pramono said the government will take extraordinary measures to deal with this situation, including cutting down trees that are not in good condition.

He said the pruning will be done across Jakarta every day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time. "To avoid disrupting the existing traffic in Jakarta, trees that are in poor condition will be pruned," said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician.

Pramono urged Jakarta residents to remain cautious, as there is still a high chance of rainfall in the next few days.

Fallen tree kills driver in Jakarta

A tree previously fell and hit five cars in South Jakarta, killing a driver. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, October 30, 2025, around 3:00 p.m.

"The victim was pronounced dead by the doctor upon arrival at Pertamina Central Hospital," said the Head of Data and Information Center of the Jakarta Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Mohamad Yohan, on Thursday.

A few days earlier, another fallen tree claimed the life of a resident in a Toyota Lexus car. Also in South Jakarta, the victim was heading to Lebak Bulus around 2:00 p.m. amid torrential downpour and strong winds when a large palm tree fell and hit the car.

"The residents who witnessed the incident reported it," said a release from the Jakarta Firefighting and Rescue Center Command Center (Gulkarmat Jakarta).
