Adil Al Hasan, Jakarta – The CEO of PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO), Patrick Walujo alias Sugito Walujo, stated that his company supports President Prabowo Subianto's initiative to address efficiency within the online transportation business. During a cabinet meeting on Monday, October 20, Prabowo had referenced the need for efficiency in the ride-hailing sector to prevent destructive competition.
"GoTo fully supports the commitment of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to provide the best service for online motorcycle taxi drivers, to encourage efficiency, and to maintain the growth of the ride-hailing ecosystem as a broad job provider for the Indonesian people," Walujo said in a written statement received by Tempo on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
Patrick asserted that GoTo will comply with and endorse government policies and regulations aimed at establishing an efficient, equitable, and sustainable industry. He highlighted that GoTo is an indigenous technology company, born, developed, and flourishing in Indonesia.
According to him, GoTo is ready to collaborate with the government to generate benefits for driver partners, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and all consumers. GoTo is also prepared to strengthen its partnership with the government to ensure digital economic growth is inclusive, equitable, and broadly advantageous to the people.
Patrick added that the GoTo ecosystem is currently powered by thousands of local digital experts, engaging more than three million driver partners and over 5.3 million MSME entrepreneurs. He stated that GoTo recognizes its obligation to ensure this ecosystem sustains a positive influence on the livelihoods of millions of families across Indonesia.
"GoTo believes that through a spirit of mutual cooperation, Indonesia can build a resilient digital ecosystem that is competitive and always provides benefits for the progress of the nation and the country," He concluded.
Earlier, President Prabowo mentioned that the government was engaged in discussions with online ride-hailing companies to find a balanced solution for the drivers. Prabowo specifically referenced two major online transportation providers, without naming them.
According to the President, the combined number of online motorcycle taxi or online ojek drivers in these two entities has reached four million, alongside two million MSME entrepreneurs. He emphasized the scale of the sector, stating, "So six million people's livelihoods depend on this issue."
