Agnes Valentina Christa, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto secured investment commitments worth $23.8 billion during his recent visit to Japan, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said on Saturday.
The pledges emerged from Prabowo's stop in Osaka, where he visited the Indonesian Pavilion at the upcoming Expo 2025.
"The short visit to Osaka resulted in investment commitments of $23.8 billion, or around Rp 380 trillion," Teddy said in a social media post.
He did not disclose the names of the investors or the sectors targeted for investment.
Prabowo's Osaka trip was part of a broader international tour. From Japan, he traveled to New York to address the United Nations General Assembly, where he was honored with the prestigious third speaking slot, following Brazil and the United States.
He then proceeded to Canada, where he witnessed the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and Canada – Jakarta's first comprehensive trade pact with a North American nation.
The tour concluded in the Netherlands, where the Dutch government committed to returning approximately 30,000 historic Javanese artifacts, fossils, and cultural documents to Indonesia.
"The Dutch government will return around 30,000 fossils, artifacts, and cultural documents belonging to Indonesia, and the process will soon begin," Teddy said.
