Eka Yudha Saputra, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has set a target for the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) to complete the government apparatus in IKN, Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan, within the next three years.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said that President Prabowo asked Basuki Hadimuljono, the Head of the IKN Authority, to build three institutional complexes within three years.
"Within the next three years, all the necessary apparatus must be completed to meet the requirements for our relocation, including executive, legislative, and judicial functions," said Prasetyo at the parliamentary complex of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Jakarta, on Friday, August 15, 2025.
Prasetyo ensured that the Presidential Palace will continue the IKN amid rumors that Prabowo is not prioritizing the continuation of the new capital city that was started by former President Joko Widodo.
"So there is no issue with IKN. Let's continue," he said.
Previously, Prasetyo mentioned that the completeness of facilities and infrastructure was the main requirement for President Prabowo to sign the decision to relocate the capital. This includes executive, legislative, and judicial infrastructure.
"The government targets the readiness of these facilities and infrastructure to be achieved within the next three years," said Prasetyo at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Friday, July 25, 2025. He also mentioned that the government requires a large budget to realize this.
This Gerindra Party politician explained the reason why Prabowo has not yet signed the presidential regulation for the relocation of the capital to IKN. He said Prabowo is still waiting for the readiness of facilities and infrastructure in IKN.
"Facilities and infrastructure, the requirements that we feel must be in place before the president decides or signs the presidential regulation on the capital relocation," he said.
The development of the IKN was vigorously carried out during the second term of former President Joko Widodo. Jokowi even held the Independence Day Ceremony on August 17, 2024, at the Presidential Palace of IKN. However, a presidential regulation is needed to authorize the relocation of the capital from Jakarta to IKN.
Prabowo is suspected of not taking the development of IKN seriously after Jokowi leaves office. During his nine months as president, he only discussed the IKN project twice. The budget for IKN this year has also been reduced.
The state budget allocated for the construction of IKN in 2024 amounted to Rp89 trillion. This year, the allocation for IKN is only Rp13.8 trillion.
