Salman Mardira, West Bandung, West Java – President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday appointed Lieutenant General Tandyo Budi Revita as deputy commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), marking the first time in a quarter-century that the position has been filled.
The appointment took place during an operational troop inspection and military honors ceremony at the Army's training facility in Batujajar, West Bandung. Prabowo also promoted Tandyo to the rank of full general during the ceremony.
The revival of the deputy commander role follows Presidential Regulation No. 84/2025 on the TNI's organizational structure, signed by Prabowo five days earlier.
Between the TNI's formation and the year 2000, seven senior officers served as deputy commander. Tandyo now becomes the eighth in the nation's history.
Prior to his appointment, Tandyo served as deputy Army chief of staff since February 24, 2024, and previously commanded the Diponegoro Military Regional Command.
Born in Surakarta, Central Java, on February 21, 1969, Tandyo is a 1991 graduate of the Indonesian Military Academy (Akmil), specializing in the infantry corps. He is a classmate of the current TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto.
Tandyo is also the younger brother of retired Major General Nugroho Budi Wiryanto, a former commander of the Siliwangi Military Regional Command and former deputy inspector general of the Army.
