Dian Rahma Fika, Jakarta – The Indonesian House Speaker, Puan Maharani, said she would follow up on the proposal from Retired Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers to impeach Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Previously, Puan mentioned that the letter is still in the General Secretariat of the House of Representatives (DPR).

"Regarding the letter, we will recheck what steps will be taken. Surely, we will process it as best as we can," said the politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta, on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

Previously, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Vice-Chairperson of the House, said that the legislative body is still looking for time to review the letter. The Gerindra politician stated that they received another letter from official retired organizations and the public regarding the demand for Gibran's impeachment.

However, he said, the Parliament cannot simply respond to the Retired TNI Soldiers Forum's letter. "So, we also need to pay attention to the pros and cons. Then we cannot immediately conduct an open discussion. So, we are looking for time to conduct a review," said Dasco to Tempo in Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

The Retired TNI Soldiers Forum gave a deadline to the Parliament and the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) until the end of this month to respond to the impeachment letter against Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the vice president.

Dwi Cahyo Suwarsono, Representative of the Retired TNI Soldiers Forum, revealed this deadline to Tempo. "We already have a deadline for the DPR to respond to our letter, even though it is not stated in the letter," Dwi Cahyo said when contacted on June 27, 2025.

On June 2, 2025, the Retired TNI Soldiers Forum officially sent a letter to the People's Consultative Assembly and the House of Representatives to propose Gibran's impeachment. In a letter numbered 003/FPPTNI/V/2025, the Retired TNI Soldiers Forum shared its legal perspective on why Gibran should be removed.

They viewed the nomination process of former president Joko Widodo's eldest son as not separate from the family's relations through the then chairman of the Constitutional Court, Anwar Usman.

The Retired TNI Soldiers Forum considered the nomination process involving Gibran's uncle to be contrary to the impartiality principle of the judiciary and the principle of fair trial in the constitutional law.

The retired soldiers also highlighted the appropriateness and suitability values possessed by Gibran as a vice president. According to the Retired TNI Soldiers Forum, the former mayor of Solo still has minimal capacity and experience to serve as vice president.

"It is very naive for this country to have a vice president who is not worthy and unfit to lead the Indonesian people on this magnitude," said the Secretary of the Retired National Military Personnel Forum, Bimo Satrio, citing the contents of the letter.

The retired soldiers' legal arguments also included suspicions of Gibran's involvement in a Kaskus account named Fufufafa. The Retired TNI Soldiers Forum also mentioned suspicions of corruption involving Gibran and his younger brother, Kaesang Pangarep, reported by Ubedilah Badrun to the Corruption Eradication Commission in 2022.
