M. Rizki Yusrial, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is currently evaluating the potential for corruption in political financing. KPK spokesperson, Budi Prasetyo, stated that the institution is in the process of discussing with political parties and election organizers to gather information.
"Of course, related to the issues faced, obstacles, and challenges, certainly in the context of corruption prevention efforts," he said at the Red and White Building of the KPK on Friday, May 16, 2025.
As for the scope of the discussions, Budi stated that they are related to the main causes of high election costs, strategies to reduce political costs, and efforts to prevent political financing from illegal sources. In addition, steps to prevent elected public officials from using illegal methods to recover their political capital were also discussed.
"And of course, discussions are also conducted regarding the mitigation of conflicts of interest of elected officials with donors as a gesture of gratitude in political financing," he said.
KPK hopes that every political party can provide complete information. According to Budi, this will help KPK understand the issues comprehensively, so that the findings and resulting recommendations can be more accurate and measurable.
"KPK certainly hopes that each party also provides complete information, so that the diagnosis or study conducted by KPK can capture the issues as a whole," he said.
He mentioned that these findings will be followed up as part of efforts to improve the political system. This step is also an important part of the context of corruption prevention in Indonesia.
