Jakarta – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka went on Instagram on Sunday to congratulate Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on the landslide election victory of his People's Action Party (PAP).
Gibran, who met Wong in November during the Singaporean Prime Minister's inaugural visit to Jakarta, said that the election win was a stronger mandate for him to lead the city state into a new chapter of development.
"We would like to convey our best hope and prayer for you in leading Singapore into a new chapter of development and progress," Gibran wrote in the caption for the photo upload, showing him and Wong chatting on their way to the November meeting.
Wong's PAP took all but 10 seats in the 97-seat unicameral legislature with a total of 65.57 percent of the more than 2.4 million votes cast in the wealthy island state in Saturday's polls.
"Singaporeans gave the PAP a strong mandate to govern," Wong told a news conference hours after the official results were announced.
"The results will put Singapore in a better position to face this turbulent world," he said, adding they were a "clear signal of trust, stability and confidence in your government".
