Radhiyya Indra, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto and Chinese President Xi Jinping have exchanged congratulations and warm wishes on the 75th anniversary of Indonesia and China's diplomatic relations, vowing to deepen the two countries' bilateral ties.
Prabowo noted in a release shared by the Foreign Ministry on Monday that the 75 years marked "a strong and dynamic partnership" between the two countries.
"In that spirit, Indonesia is committed to continue working together [with China] on five main pillars, namely politics, economy, culture, maritime and security," the statement said.
Meanwhile, Xi emphasized the "rapid development" of Indonesian-Chinese bilateral relations. He also highlighted the two nations' roles as influential members of the Global South, noting that their partnership carried significant global impact.
As of last year, China and Indonesia ranked among the world's 10 largest economies by purchasing power parity, according to the International Monetary Fund. They are two of only four Global South countries on that list, alongside India and Brazil.
Earlier this year, Indonesia further solidified its global economic presence by becoming a full member of the BRICS bloc, joining the core group of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The Foreign Ministry's statement added that Indonesia remains committed to advancing its strategic partnership with China.
"The friendship and cooperation that continues to grow between the two countries will continue to bring mutual benefits and contribute to regional peace, stability and prosperity," the release said.
Xi had a direct call with Prabowo on Sunday as the two congratulated each other on the 75th anniversary, Reuters reported, citing China's official Xinhua News Agency.
After taking office in October last year, President Prabowo chose China for his first official visit, during which he and President Xi agreed to deepen cooperation in strategic sectors such as lithium, new energy vehicles, green energy and tourism.
